No Promises Await at Journey’s End

Journey to
Revelation

In 1997, Final Fantasy VII was released and changed RPGs and video games forever. Over the next 30 years, its beloved universe and characters would be expanded on through the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII project. After 3 decades of storytelling, all that comes to an epic conclusion with the last entry: Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

This website helps fans new and old and those curious about the series understand how it all comes together, which entries in the series actually matter and to prepare you for one final battle.

Revelation arrives April 8, 2027 PS5 · Switch 2 · Xbox Series X|S · PC

The number of entries and total hours to complete is determined by your selected Journey in the controls below. Progress is weighted by the estimated average hours to complete each entry from HowLongToBeat.com, so completing a long game moves the bar further than a short film. These are estimates only. Filtering media types only change what you see below and does not affect the entries required to complete the Journey.

  1. Choose how thorough you want your Final Fantasy VII journey to be below
  2. Select which order you want to experience it
  3. Mark each entry below as In Progress / Completed as you progress
  4. Your Journey progress will update and reflect how much is left. All progress is saved
  5. You’re now ready to experience Revelation

Choose your Journey:

Customise how many entries in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII you want to experience

  • Completionist: You want to experience everything Final Fantasy VII has to offer. You’ll understand the history and all references Revelation will throw at you. This will provide maximum enjoyment and appreciation of Revelation and the entire FFVII universe, but it takes a lot of time and includes the weaker & retconned entries. This is the suggested journey for die-hard fans of Final Fantasy VII that want it all. (Shows Required, Recommended, Optional, Skip entries)
  • Enthusiast: You want every piece of the story that matters and some useful additions. Every character, relationship and event Revelation may call back to is covered, without the spin-offs that only add trivia or were abandoned. This is the suggested journey for fans of Final Fantasy VII. (Shows Required, Recommended, Optional entries)
  • Prepared: You want enough context to understand the story and get the references and surprises in Revelation’s main story. Some deep cut callbacks and surprises won’t land for you. This is the suggested journey for those who want to play Revelation and get a meaningful experience. (Shows Required, Recommended entries)
  • Casual: You want to experience only the absolutely necessary entries in the least amount of time so you can play Revelation without feeling lost and confused. Most callbacks and surprises won’t land but you’ll still have a good time. This is the suggested journey for those that just want to experience Revelation and not care about the broader FFVII universe. (Shows Required entries)

Choose your Ordering:

Customise what order you want to experience the entries in

  • Release order: Sorts entries in the time they were released. Surprises and reveals land in the way they were intended. This is the recommended option.
  • Timeline order: Sorts entries in a chronological order for when the events mostly occur. This is an approximation as some entries span across multiple time periods or is ambiguous. Surprises and reveals won’t land the same way in this order. This is not recommended.

At last, the Promise is fulfilled.
    The journey ends here.

A personal note from the creator

Thank you for checking out this fun little project. As a life long Final Fantasy VII fan whose life changed since playing it, I wanted to experience Revelation to its fullest. What started out as a simple to-do list to now a full-blown website, it has become a celebration of Final Fantasy VII and all the stories within it.

I noticed many communities online being confused about which entries to get into and in what order to make sure they're ready for Revelation. It is understandably complex and daunting. I wanted to help demystify it and ease the barrier of entry for newcomers so we can all share in the experience of these amazing characters and their stories.

This website will be continually updated when new information comes out and even post-Revelation's release to ensure the information, ordering and connections are all up to date.

For those going through this page or seeing communities online being so fervent about Final Fantasy VII and wondering “What’s all the fuss about?”, it’s hard to succinctly summarise. I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight 2 videos to help explain the impact of Final Fantasy VII to someone standing from afar. Together, I hope these videos can explain the journey we all went through together over the last 3 decades with all the ups, downs and surprises along the way and hopefully you too can join us on the journey and feel what we all felt.
